Of circular form with deep, rounded sides rising form a short foot to a flared rim, painted to the front with four large cartouches enclosing two figures each, set against a ground of scrolling waves in turquoise enamel, further decorated with auspicious symbols such as bats and phoenix birds in red enamel, underglaze-blue and gilding, the back of the brim decorated with a freely painted border of florals in underglaze-blue, the glazed reverse with spur marks. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Diameter c. 48 cm.
